About

Elgin Business Resource Centre is a community-based, non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors who ably represents the population of Elgin County. The corporation was federally incorporated as Elgin Community Futures Development Corporation in 1996; it is staffed by business professionals who encourage entrepreneurship and the pursuit of economic opportunities. It was in 1986 that Elgin Community Futures Development Corporation first opened its doors. At that time, we were known as the Elgin Local Employment Assistance and Development Corporation. Ten years later, the organization would evolve, merging with the Elgin Community Futures Committee to assist and encourage job creation through the creation of small business enterprises and community economic development throughout Elgin County. As an organization that just keeps on re-inventing itself, we have undergone another such transformation and have become the Elgin Business Resource Centre.

Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) support community economic development by assisting Ontario’s rural and northern communities to strengthen and diversify their economies. With 37 corporations in rural southern Ontario and 24 in Northern Ontario, CFDCs are well positioned to offer local solutions to local needs.

The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) is Canada’s national organization of Economic Developers pursuing excellence in the field since 1968.

The Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) provides leadership to enhance the professional development of its members; advance economic development as a profession and support our municipalities in fostering economic prosperity in Ontario.

The Canadian Association of Business Incubation, (CABI) is a vital national organization of member organizations whose members are dedicated to creating employment and economic activity through the development of enterprises supported by the business incubation industry.
